Latency is the delay from an input to a system to a desired output. There will be a 98% change of latency in 5G as compared to 4G. Earlier in 4G the latency was 50ms which will be reduced to 1 ms in 5G Network.
5G which has outsourced many applications,among which one is intelligent traffic management system, in which more and more driver less car will be on the roads.To ensure the safety, once a command is sent to the car, it must receive it immediately.
For example, A command to apply brake, or to immediately turn left or right is sent to the car, the car must receive and execute it within 1ms, to avoid collisions or any sort of accidents.
This requirement cannot be
met with the 4G network with higher latency of 50ms. With the latency of 4G network, a car driving at 100 km/h still moves 1.4 m from the time it finds a obstacle to the time when the braking command is executed.
Whereas in 5G network, the car will move just 2.8 cm, and this performance is comparable with the standard of an anti-lock braking system (ABS).Hence, it will avoid the collisions.
This key feature in 5G Network will bring traffic management in India to some another level.
